I promised guitars...

I promised guitars, didn't I. Well the newest family member is a Taylor NS42ce. This is a nylon string ("gut string" in our house) guitar for electric players who don't want the wide and flat clasical neck. Very nice. Run right out and buy one.

Played the "little brother" this week, NS32CE, and can vouch for the overall quality of workman ship and suitability of this NSx2CE series for jazz. The neck profile is amazingly thin for a nylon strung instrument; and, despite a traditional one-piece saddle, the guitar was "in tune" all the way up the neck. Despite the "Grand Concert" appelation on the Taylor advert, the upper bout is small (narrow), and the guitar has an overall feel that is much smaller than a normal-sized classical guitar. Overall quality was excellent, but mail order buyers should beware: factory setup can vary quite a bit. Another NS32CE at the same shop had action that was way high. Instead of the standard 1/8" string height at fret 12, this other Taylor was clearly more than 3/16".
