"Mr. Carter, meet reality"

Duplomacy.GIF

My favorite editoral cartoonists, Cox and Forkum, introduce the appeasing FORMER President to one of the realities of making deals with dictators. This makes one wonder if this FORMER President has ever attempted "diplomacy" with the current regimes in Syria or Iran.

Cox and Forkum offer commentary on their own cartoons about the dictators of North Korea and Cuba.

Ah yes, our 39th President...I think the glaring inaccuracy in this (great) cartoon is that President Carter would never admit that anything was wrong or be despondent about the outcome of his fecklessness.

You are probably right that he would not make such admissions publicly, but the cartoons portray Carter in private conversations with his pals. They illustrate Carter's naivete in attempting to reason with individuals who deny the existence of reason.

In his private thoughts and conversations with like-minded people Carter certainly must feel betrayed by these tyrants. You don't suppose that he actually EXPECTED them to break their "promises" do you?

I prefer not to climb into the man's mind. I expect that diplomats tend to believe in their pieces of paper.

More importantly, Cox & Forkum is now on the blogroll. I love today's about Congress "fixing" the canoe paddle.
