Lady Thatcher

Giants have walked this planet. Read every word of this Times Online piece. She takes a whack at the French, praises President Bush (and Labor PM Blair) and is so purely Maggie:
"Lady Thatcher warned that America and Britain faced a 'pervasive culture of anti-Westernism' that needed to be challenged. 'There are too many people who imagine that there is something sophisticated about always believing the best of those who hate your country, and the worst of those who defend it.'"
Like Andrew Sullivan, "I miss her."

Like Churchill was, Margaret Thatcher is a perceptive leader who calls it like she sees it, regardless of the criticism it generates. Churchill was a lonely figure in Britain when he incessantly warned a sleeping Britain about Hitler. The Western democracies face a similar threat to their institutions from the likes of North Korea, the Sudan (extremist Islamic government), etc.

Thank the British for having learned the lessons of World War 2, and thank them for having past and present leaders who do the tough but necessary things to stand up to those who present a threat to Western institutions!
