This comparison of government-mandated and consumer-optional auto service providers is an excellent example to show how free-market competition results in superior choices for consumers. But what about the fact that testing the tailpipe emissions of you car is "necessary" for the benefit of "all" instead of the individual? "We" can't allow selfish individuals to pollute the air we all share, can we?
(I have an answer for this softball pitch but I'm interested in your response to it.)
By the way... Colorado does not mandate the emission testing program, six urban counties around Denver do. Having recently moved from Boulder county to Weld county (we're right above the "i" in Brighton, just north of the Adams county line, in the map linked below) I am happily no longer subject to this particular tax on personal autos. SO LONG, SUCKERS!
