Our Thoughts are with Senator Clinton after the accident:
The Associated Press reports that New York junior Senator Hillary Clinton
narrowly escaped injury in the aircraft that she was piloting when she was
forced to make an emergency landing in Southern Texas because of bad
weather. National Transportation Safety Board officials have issued a
preliminary determination that pilot error contributed to the accident, and
that the senator was flying in IFR conditions while only having obtained a
VFR, single engine land rating. The absence of a post-crash fire was likely
due to insufficient fuel on board.

I watched W lavish praise on Bill and Hill during Monday's dedication of their White House portraits. It was delightful to watch them squirm as the President killed them with kindness. One didn't have the sense that he 'liked' them, but definitely that they liked him far less.
Posted by: johngalt at June 16, 2004 10:28 AMWho would have thought Bush could out-lie Clinton?
Posted by: saint stephen at June 16, 2004 01:25 PMOnly you, apparently. You don't have to like someone in order find a few nice things to say about him.
Why is it so important to some people to insist at every opportunity that "Bush is a liar!"
Posted by: johngalt at June 17, 2004 10:29 AMI think you might misconstrue a new commenter, johngalt (don't chase ANYBODY away!)
For the record, I liked W's remarks at the unveiling of the Clinton portraits very much. If there's one thing I like more than partisanship, it is the comity between our ex-presidents (sadly, President Carter does not qualify). Watching GHW Bush and WJ Clinton yukking it up after a Reagan event warmed my heart. (Did you see when Bush gave him a shove?)
I cry at every Inauguration (not just Democrat ones) because the peaceful transfer of power is the greatest gift of democracy.
jk, that was my point, made with a touch of sarcasm.
Posted by: saint stephen at June 17, 2004 01:44 PMApologies to Stephen. Strike the first sentence from my previous comment. (Not only because it was unnecessarily personal, but there are obviously thousands of Democrats who agree his comment.)
That said, can someone explain, sarcasm or not, how we're supposed to interpret 'Bush out-lied Clinton' to mean 'ex-presidents treat each other fraternally' or 'peaceful transfer of power is the greatest gift of democracy?'
Nobody bit on my question, "Whis is it so important to some people to insist at every opportunity that "Bush is a liar" so I answered it myself in the 5th post above this one.
Posted by: johngalt at June 18, 2004 11:22 AMIt was a simple attempt to demonstrate that perhaps partisanship has distorted your view of their relationship. It is blind partisanship that leads some Democrats to make the false statement that “Bush is a liar.”
Yes, I am a partisan, for the alternative is indifference. My partisanship, however, is not blind.
