Happy Thanksgiving!

I am thankful for so much.

  • my wonderful family, both nuke-u-ler and extended;

  • freedom, bought with brave men’s blood;

  • great friends, amusing work;

  • enough health and wealth to have fun;

And (sniff!) the tiny but awesome group of participants in this blog. I always wanted to hit it big, but that just brings higher costs and more hate mail. I get intelligent challenges from the left and right almost every day – that’s a gift.

Have a great day everybody!

I think you echo all of our sentiments, JK. Fox News cited a survey this morning showing that 88% of Americans are "very thankful" this year. Even when the Democrats are considered separately the "very thankful" among them total 77% - despite the re-election of some Texas village's idiot as POTUS.

Jonah Goldberg shares some other reasons for America to be thankful. (http://www.pittsburghlive.com/x/tribune-review/opinion/columnists/guests/s_276496.html) I'll sumarize it as "be thankful we're not Europeans."

"If we were even remotely as bad as our critics overseas believe us to be, all of the mavericks, troublemakers and whistleblowers wouldn't be mavericks, troublemakers and whistleblowers. They would either be silent or they'd be in unmarked graves.

For every politician who takes a bribe, every journalist who plagiarizes, every husband who hits his wife, every child who cheats, there are multitudes who do none of these things -- not because they are saints or heroes, but simply because they are human beings raised in this good and decent land.

Yes, I am proud of and thankful for the real heroes risking and sacrificing everything in Iraq. But on this Thanksgiving, let's also be thankful and proud that the thing these heroes are defending is so gloriously worth it."

But the most powerful image of gratitude this Thanksgiving season is brought to us by the beleagured citizens of Fallujah, Iraq. "Many residents of that besieged town left bedding for the Marines and soldiers, along with notes thanking them for liberating their town from the terrorists and inviting them to sleep in their homes if necessary." Proof that in every country of the world, man's best friend is a U.S. Marine.
